Overseas trips made by Bulgarians have grown by 42.3 percent in the first half of 2008 compared to the same period of 2007, according to data provided by the National Statistical Institute. Greece is the most frequented destination, followed by Turkey and, perhaps surprisingly, Romania.
Over the same period, foreign tourists have visited Bulgaria a total of 3.19 million times, which illustrates an 18 percent increase on last year. Here, Bulgaria’s neighbours top the list again, but in a reverse order: the greatest number of guests have been Romanian, followed by Turkish and Greek nationals. Greek and Romanian visitors prefer short tours lasting two or three days. Greeks tend to come to Bulgaria.
For a shopping spree, while Romanians stay closer to home at resorts along the northern Black Sea coast.
