The greatest number of tourists visiting Bulgaria this summer have come from Russia followed by Romania, said Tsvetan Tonchev, chairman of the Bulgarian Tourist Chamber.
Guests from the Scandinavian countries, Germany and Great Britain have been fewer than expected. Tourism managers point out that vigorous advertising abroad is crucial to extending the coastal tourist season and attracting a larger number of more affluent visitors.
Only about five percent of the hotels on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast – the four and five-star ones – have the capacity to operate all-year-round. Other cons of Bulgarian tourism include the unsatisfactory quality of services and the poor condition of the roads.
